GRADE 6 MATHEMATICS
"The only limitations one has, are the ones they place on themselves."
Rodrigus K. Graham
Mathematics is a fundamental part of a balanced education. The IB program promotes a powerful universal language, analytical reasoning and problem solving skills that contribute to the development of logical, abstract and critical thinking. Sixth grade math classes will study the following areas: numbers and operations; proportionality; expressions, equations, and relationships; measurement and data; and personal financial literacy.
CLASSROOM RESOURCES
KHAN ACADEMY
Khan Academy is a free online resource that allows students to learn anytime, anywhere, with material that is uniquely appropriate for them. Students can explore new topics and strengthen their skills by doing practice problems and tutorials. As students learn, their activity feeds into reports that show important information such as strengths and weaknesses in a particular concept. By using Khan Academy, I’ll be able to provide a more personalized learning experience for your child.

As a parent, you’ll be able to see what your child is working on. If you’d like, you can set up a parent/guardian account and follow along your child’s progress in 5 quick steps:

-
Log-in to Khan Academy with your child using the account information given in class.

-
Click on their Username → Settings in the upper right corner.

-
Enter your email address in the “Parent Email” Field.

-
Check your inbox for an email from Khan Academy.

PRODIGY
This year we’ll be using an exciting educational game called Prodigy. Students will explore new topics and strengthen their skills by doing practice problems. As students complete activities, their information feeds into reports that show important information such as strengths and weaknesses in a particular concept. While we will be using the program during school hours, students are encouraged to play with the same character at home to supplement their practice!

As a Prodigy Parent, your account gives you access to multiple comprehensive reports, daily and weekly usage data, and will even email you from time to time about your child’s progress! If you’d like, you can set up a parent/guardian account and follow along your child’s progress in 4 quick steps:

-
Enter your account details to create your parent account.

-
Once logged in, follow the on-boarding instructions.

-
Add your child using their username and password (listed below).
